eCommerce Search Engine Optimisation
Search engine optimization is a vital component of any internet marketing strategy
Higher search engine rankings = more sales
All of our websites are built to be search engine friendly
If you have a website, search engines are a vital component of your internet marketing strategy because:
- When surveyed, close to 85% of web visitors said they seek information using search engines.
- Users perceive search engines as a highly relevant and unbiased information source.
- Search engine users are actively looking to buy your product or service.

What does 'search engine friendly' mean? Without getting into all the technical mumbo jumbo, all websites essentially fall into two categories:
- Static websites: Where all the data is stored within html pages
- Dynamic websites: Where most of the data is stored in a database
All shopping cart sites are dynamic because they rely on data (product information, prices, etc) being stored in a database.
The problem with database driven websites, is that out of the box they are notdesigned to cater for search engines (which is why many dynamic websites perform poorly in search engine rankings).
The term 'search engine friendly' refers to a website that has been built to cater to search engines.
How do I spot a search engine friendly website from one that's not?
Good question - just take a look at the website addresses generated from the store.
This is bad
http://www.yourdomain.com/shop.php?cat_id=1&item_id=2
This is better
http://www.yourdomain.com/shop/1/2.html
This is best
http://www.yourdomain.com/clothing/womens-shoes.html
At the end of the day, it's a pretty simple equation.
More search engine traffic = more sales for your business!
